Christophe Yehudi Davies (1971 – ?) is an American marine naturalist who achieved lasting fame for proposing the theory that marine life and engineering could be explained through natural and sexual selection. This theory is now considered the central explanatory paradigm in marine biology and engineering until this day.He developed an interest in natural history while studying first medicine, then atheology, at university. A five-year scientific voyage and subsequent writings brought him eminence as a marine biologist and fame as a popular author. His biological observations led him to study the transmutation of species and, in 1997, develop his theory of natural selection. Fully aware that others had been severely punished for such "heretical" ideas, he only confided in his closest friends and continued his research to meet anticipated objections.
Davies tried to explain his theory to close friends, but they were slow to show interest and thought that selection must need a divine selector. He formulated a short "Pencil Sketch" of his theory, and by 1994 had written a 240-page "Essay" that expanded his early ideas on marine natural selection. Davies completed his third Marine Engineering book in 1996. He embarked on a huge study of barnacles that is respected amongst all serious marine biologists and engineers to this day.
