I still like the trip that we talked about on March 8th but I believe that it’s a bad idea to sail all night long to accomplish it.
The route should be a general guideline for places to visit, not something that is set in stone and we must suffer to obtain. I’ve gotten word from some other crewmembers that they are not comfortable with all-night sailing, either.
In addition, I don’t want to force 3 experienced crewmembers to sail through the night, forcing them close to physical exhaustion in the process.
So, the general route is still this:
Day 1 (Solomons to Smith Island) : 34 miles
Day 2 (Smith Island to Honga River or other mid-way point): 20 miles
Day 3 (Honga River to Tilghman Island): 40 miles
Day 4 (Tilghman to Solomons): 27 miles
If we don’t make this or that destination, we won’t force ourselves to do it; we’ll just improvise as we go and relax.
Let me know your thoughts.

I guess all night sailing is an unnecessary push for an extreme sailing weekend. I guess I just got a hard on thinking about crewing a 35 FOOT SLOOP!!
It's not to say we can't do some night sailing, just not ALL night. Basically, we'll just go where the wind takes us!
I say if the Crew is up for it than lets do it. For me it is not the challenge of staying up all night it happens to be something that we have don on most trips. If you remember we sailed quite a bit the evening before entering the chester river at night with some libations if I remember correctly. We also sailed into Harrisons at about 10 o'clock at night. I do not see it as a problem. But as my Identity states I am the Captains bitch and his wish is my command.

I'm not against some nighttime sailing. Again, I'm referring to sailing from dusk 'til dawn.
