Captain asked me to say a few words about motion sickness.
Throwing up sucks.
Imagine that feeling multiplied by 10 drawn out over hours/days. If anybody is at all concerned about seasickness, get your ass to your doctors and get a perscription for something anti - motion sickness.
Dramamine is the most popular. It works fast but only last up to 6 hours. It comes in pills. There is this new type called Dramamine II or Antivert that lasts 8 to 24 hours your doctor may not know about - it's probably more convenient. The big side effect with this drug is drowsiness which may make drinking more interesting for you.
Scopolamine is my choice. It's a transdermal patch you stick on the skin behind your ear, and wear it for 3 days. You forget it's there. I wore it last year, and was fine. Drowsiness is a side effect, but I was alright. Another is dry mouth - a guy I work with used it and he said he had it terribly. I don't remember it being an issue, as I don't remember a shortage of beer an issue.
These two are the best in my opinion, but doctors have their favorites, and there are others. You might want to deal with this now to get it out of the way, since it's sometimes hard to get in to see a doc without an emergency. They are typically not covered by insurance, so you'll have to pay cash at the pharmacy - I think the scopolamine patch was around 30 to 40 dollars.
It is Damon's policy to turn around INSTANTLY if you are seasick. This may be because I for one puked all over the Lonnie Bruner's foredeck while trying to hoist the mainsail. He won't ask you how you are doing, he'll make a beeline for the cars. I felt bad for ruining his day of sailing. Seasickness sucks ass - plus feeling guilty for screwing up a big trip for 8 other guys.

Thank you for this, Jason.
It is true. If you are sea sick and there is obviously no end in sight, there is always land nearby and it's no problem for me to take you there. Oten that's the only cure. Sometimes, it can be waited out on land and people get their sea legs and are ready to go out on the water again. Sometimes not.
We will be on the boat for 4 days. If you are at all concerned that you might get sea sick, PLEASE buy one of the types of medicine that Jason mentioned. 40 dollars is worth it!

Funny story, I went on a head boat for the day once, the seas were pretty rough 3'-5' swells. At least 12 people were looking pretty green. It was about 7:30Am when I sat down amoungst them with a beer and a hotdog. Let's just say chumming was no longer required.
I think Dramamine may be available over the counter, or non-prescription. I will check... this usually means it's more expensive and DEFINATELY not covered.
Meclazine is anothere alternative, a pill that lasts 24 hrs.
After talking to anesthesiologists at work, and other docs, it seems the best choice if you can get a prescription is the scopolamine patch. (If you start hurling, a pill may not stay down and be effective).
Dramamine is definitely available over the counter. It's pretty cheap, too. But you're right: it only lasts 4 to 6 hours.
