Segel now has a damn EPIRB onboard! You'd only need it for blue water sailing or sailing solo, but still. From the owner:

Captain Bailey often test sails Segel alone. One of his concerns is being overboard with Segel on autopilot without anyone knowing. He bought the ACR AquaFix 406 I/O [GPS Interface/Onboard GPS] in April 2005. This device is small enough to be clipped to your lifevest and deployed if in trouble. This EPIRB has a built in GPS that supplies its location in the coded 406 MHz signal it sends. A rescue helicopter from Patuxent Naval Air Station should be overhead within 20 minutes of the P-EPIRB being activated.

This thing is cool. I was reading about it online, and it will definately assist the wife-worry factor.
I'd like to point out this part from the link I provided:
The most modern 406 MHz beacons with GPS locate a beacon with a precision of 100 meters, anywhere in the world, and send a serial number so the government authority can look-up phone numbers to notify next-of-kin in four minutes, with rescue commencing shortly afterward.
Will the EPIRB protect your liver? I think that's your biggest danger.
