This is a very important sailing term, even though a google search yields almost no real results. In fact, this is the only website I could find on it. It's not listed on dictionary.com or wikipedia.org but never ye mind! The term exists.
As captain, when underway (means sailing, you lubbers!) I keep my vessel in an ongoing state of yar (when anchored, this "yarredness" can go---in part---by the wayside). The term is very general, covering the tidiness of the cabin & cockpit to the strength of the craft & crew itself.
A clean and tidy boat is a seaworthy boat. As we all know, with sailing, things can get "unstable" to say the least. If the shit ever gets hairy, a yar (yarred) boat is the best kind of be on.
