The Day Draws Nigh

Let me tell you a little something about how freakin excited I am for this trip. I am so waiting to get out on the open water that the expectation of what will happen probably isn't as good as it will be.

We will get tired, possibly wet and cold. Grumpy and more or less hungover, strung out on coffee and smokes. Our luck may be like last year and we may have to beat to weather the whole trip (or motor through a hot placid lull, which is worse). The food won't be as good as Derek's. Tangier could be a boring tourist trap. I must temper my childlike enthusiasm with these thoughts in order to stay sane.

That might be reality, lads. But sometimes my eyes glaze over and I picture the good stuff. I picture plowing through a whitecapped sea with an awesome sunset behind us. The smell of a much needed dinner wafting from the cabin, the Captain rolling around on the floor piss drunk and barking slurred orders to hear the 1812. An icy cold Gin and Tonic in one hand with my other hand on the wheel, laughing at the last joke someone told.

Can it possibly be that good? Is my expectation unrealistic and just a survival mode my brain goes into when I have been land bound too long? Is our trip going to be the perfect combination of endurance, festivities, indulgence and adventure?

YES IT GOD DAMN WILL BE!!!! I have found the Blackbeard flag and it will sail along with us, over the open southern bay. IT'S LESS THAN A WEEK AWAY!!!! SAILORS TO THE MAST!!!! SAILORS TO THE MAST!!!!
